SUNDAY, MAY 17
CHECK-IN como HOTEL
We’ll welcome you at Malpensa/Milan airport. We ’ll pick you up and take you to the hotel to freshen up. People are friendly, hospitable, and happy to see cyclists like you visit and appreciate the Italian culture.
The Como Lake region is one of the preferred destinations for bicycle rides and competitions.
After that will meet with our expert guide Raffaele and check out the personalized bike set up brought to you by Hersh Bicycles. A short bike ride to check that everything is ok will commence.
MONDAY, MAY 18
LUGANO RIDE
We’ll bike through Como to the entry post to Switzerland. Will show our passport and will be on our way to the roads between the two lakes till we reach Lugano. This is gorgeous and fairly flat ride. It’s an easy road to
ride with a gradual ascent that tops out at only 5%.
Some of these rides will be on roads with traffic. However, motorists are aware of cyclists and are usually kind to those who practice the national sport of cycling.
These roads were used for the 2009 UCI Road World Championships, which took place in nearby Mendrisio, Switzerland, where Cadel Evans won the 7-hour road race.
TUESday, MAY 19
COMO LAKE RIDE
The roads around Lake Como are easy and spectacular, following the lake’s contours on mostly well-paved paths. The ride features very gradual hills, leading to Mezzegra where we’ll embark on a short ferry ride across Como Lake to the charming town of Bellagio.
On the Italian roads you will see a lot of Vespas and other small forms of transportation that has helped Italy move out of WWII destruction, into a modern society where quality and craftsmanship has propelled Italy in it’s post-war renaissance. Total distance is 46 miles with elevation of about 2,344 feet.
Option to visit Madonna del Ghisallo
Some will prefer to climb up to Sanctuary of Madonna del Ghisallo with our guide. The museum displays historic bicycles, jerseys, trophies of legendary cyclists that have created myths in cycling.
Like the unbelievable story of courage of Gino Bartali for example who, beside winning the Tour de France 2 times and the Giro d’Italia 3 times, was awarded the Nations Gold Medal for helping the Jews escape the Nazis during WWII.
The Madonna del Ghisallo is believed to be the cyclists protectors.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 20
LAKE garda
From the hotel we’ll travel to scenic ride along Lake Garda. This is the biggest lake in Italy that has beautiful rides along the lake’s edge, heading toward the iconic Sirmione Castle from Peschiera.
From Desenzano, we’ll follow the road toward our destination near Salo’. In the near-by city of Portese we will board a ferry (From point B to point A) to complete our tour. This leisurely route includes a gradual bike path with only 650 feet of elevation gain, covering a total of 35/45 miles for the day.
THURSDAY, MAY 21
Peschiera to The Dolomites
From the colorful town of Peschiera, we’ll travel by private coach past charming lakeside villages and vineyards, then take the Autostrada through high mountain passes to reach Moena — a well-known Giro d’Italia stage town in the heart of the Dolomites.
Moena, a key town in Trentino, will be our staging ground for the Sellaronda course just a few miles up the road. As you may know, the route includes four mountain passes with safe descents and breathtaking views. Our custom-prepared ORO bikes will be equipped with a 34/34 ratio, ideal for these climbs. For those who prefer assistance, we can also rent local e-MTBs.
This course is considered by many a true “bucket-list” ride. Conquer the Sellaronda, and you earn your place as a serious cycling enthusiast.
Between each Sellaronda pass, we’ll stop for a beer, a coffee, or a plate of pasta before taking on the next descent. Cyclists from all over the world come here for Sellaronda Day or to challenge themselves in the spring and summer months. Total mileage for the day will be around 34 miles.
FRIDAY, MAY 22
The Dolomites to Lake Carezza to Como
From Moena we’ll ride to Lake Carezza (left) and then make our way back toward Como.
With our private transport, we will return to the Como–Milano area and stay at a hotel near Malpensa Airport for an easy early-morning transfer to your flight home. A goodby dinner will be on Lake Como.
Along the way, we’ll stop at an Autogrill, one of Italy’s iconic over-the-highway rest stops, for a coffee, cappuccino, or beer break. It’s also a great place to pick up packaged olive oil, Barolo or Chianti wine, Grana Padano cheese, or other souvenirs to bring home. (Anything that is not a meat product is generally safe to take through airport customs.).
sATURDAY, MAY 23
Hotel to Malpensa AIRPORT
We always hate to see our friends go, especially after sharing such great rides, wonderful food, and memorable time together. With our private transportation I’ll take you to Malpensa Airport for your scheduled departure.
We hope to see you back in Italy soon for another cycling adventure — next time in the beautiful south of Italy.
